Shamrocks Go For Bronze     (8/2/2009)
by Janice Huckin

The Intermediate ‘A’ Shamrocks will go for bronze Monday at the Provincials being held in Delta.  The ‘Rocks were once again unable to score more than 4 goals against the Coquitlam Adanacs in Sunday’s round robin action, losing 7-4.

The Shamrocks finished the round robin with a 1-2 record and will face the 0-3 Port Coquitlam Saints while the Adanacs will play the Delta Islanders for gold and silver.

The bronze medal game will be played at 11:00 am.  Although this probably will not sit well with the players, they can be proud of their season’s accomplishments.  After starting off at 1-4, they rebounded and rattled off 11 consecutive wins to finish in a second place tie with Delta.  They had only a handful of returning players and played through some tough personal circumstances to get there.

On the ‘B’ side of the tournament, Juan de Fuca finished the round robin in a 3-way tie with a record of 1 win and 2 losses, losing to New Westminster 5-4 Sunday.  They were given second place on the tie-breaker of goals for and against and will play the 3-0 Coquitlam squad for gold/silver Monday at 3:00 pm with the ‘A’ final to follow at 5:30.

Good luck to the Shamrocks and Juan de Fuca.
