Shamrocks Mourn Brian Mayzes     (6/19/2009)
by Janice Huckin

The Shamrock family is in shock today and mourning the loss of one of our own.  Brian Mayzes passed away suddenly Thursday night.  Brian was a long-time participant in the Saanich Minor Lacrosse Organization.  In his playing career, he was a goaltender, and played one season for the Coquitlam Jr. team back in 1976.  More recently, he has been the head scout for the Jr. Shamrocks for three years and an involved parent with the Intermediate ‘A’ Shamrocks.  Brian was also a photographer and sometime statistician and scorekeeper – jack of all trades for the Jr. and Intermediate teams.

He was a big man in stature but he was also a big man in heart.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to Brian’s family - his wife Dianne, sons Scott and Cory, currently a goaltender for the Intermediates.  To honour Brian, both the Jr. and Intermediate Shamrocks will be wearing a patch on their helmets with his initials for the remainder of the season.  He will be missed by his many friends and relatives – the arena won’t be the same without him.  Rest in peace, Brian.
